Toxic vs Wholesome Masculinity

There’s a difference between toxic and wholesome masculinity. Look at the movie Tarzan! Both Tarzan and Clayton are big, muscular men who resemble paragons of masculine behavior- they’re beefcakes, they fight enemies, they express themselves physically, both in terms of social dominance and simply in the way they move and carry themselves.

But Tarzans actions come from a longing for his family that respects him, he desires to protect them. Claytons actions come from Rage, Greed and violence when his goals are threatened.

When Tarzan came in contact with a different culture he tried to understand it, not destroy it. He wanted to learn more. Clayton wanted to shout and shoot and destroy.

When Clayton tries too shoot Tarzan he says, “be a man”. Tarzan responds with “Not a man like you.”

Toxic Femininity/Feminism vs Wholesome Femininity/Feminism

Toxic femininity/Feminism is, for example, saying:

“I hate men. I refuse to shave and put on makeup, and if you do, you’re supporting the patriarchy! No woman should EVER cook for her husband!”

“All woman should put on makeup and shave. All woman should cook and clean for their husband, it is their job too! Woman should be traditionally feminine at ALL times!”

Wholesome femininity/Feminism is:

“I do not hate men, for 2 wrongs don’t make a right. I don’t want to shave and put on makeup, because it is my choice not too. But no one, not a men or another woman should tell you what to do. I wouldn’t want too cook for my husband, because I don’t want too. It’s your choice too, though!”

“I love men. I shave and put on makeup because it is my choice too. I want too cook for my husband, and be a house wife. I’ll prefer too be traditionally feminine, but I respect your choice too be more masculine, etc.”

Hope this helped! Feel free to use.
