Men claim they are depressed because they aren’t getting enough (or any) sex, but the deeper issue is feeling like a genetic dead end.

Beyond the shameless virtue signalling, women are actually being kind by pretending personality plays a large part in their sexual selection process. As they are typically more emotional than men, some feel the hopelessness of many men’s situations and feel bad for them so they offer them a strategy to retain some hope.

Although it’s not easy to completely change your personality to one women find more attractive (some would argue impossible for strong introverts, the autistic etc.) adjusting your behaviour is still something you can attempt in small bites every day while holding onto hope for a better future. (You could argue it’s false hope and cruel to feed the fantasy, but if that false hope helps some guy avoid offing himself, I think it’s for the best.)

The physical deal breakers women apply to men on the other hand are largely encoded into your DNA from birth. If you’re short, unless your parents pump you full of HGH when you’re young, you’re probably going to struggle. It’s the same for the ugly and some of the overweight. Sure you can get plastic surgery, but it’s expensive and not always successful (and as a man it's weak and supplicating to subject yourself to surgery just to appease the shallow standards of women you don't really respect, however entitled to those standards those women may be). Plus, while diet and exercise can help you lose weight, there are some people that just don’t seem to get full on normal portions due to failing neurological switches in their brains. There are also some who just appear congenitally lazy to a pathological degree.

Our basic genetic drive as straight men is to reproduce with women we find attractive. When all the women you find attractive find you physically repulsive, a sense of hopelessness and despair creeps in that is difficult to suppress. It’s this feeling that drives depression in a lot of men and I believe is similar to them passing through the depression phase of the 5 stages of grief.

If you’re experiencing this phase, just hold on. Acceptance is next and although the cosmic unfairness of it all will always remain true, you learn to just not care so much and focus on other parts of your life where your efforts are appreciated and rewarded.

And don't forget: if you manage to be wildly successful in your endeavours beyond women, there'll surely be a couple who show up at the finish line looking to cash in.
