How important is meditation?

It's not something deemed 100% necessary here, like lifting, but I think it is very important, and worth a shot for any man.

I meditated the other day. Something wasn't going my way, and I had some free time, so I sat down with the intention of not getting up until I was rooted in the present. It gives you freedom from your desires, if that makes sense. So you're not attached to them, which allows you to pursue them more effectively.

For people that live in the west, I think it is very important. Think of the effect all of these short term pleasures we have access to are having on us. The west has been thinking short term and losing consciousness for decades. Luckily, I believe there is a restorative exercise in meditation. Does it suck, yes. It is not fun to waste your life sitting still and resisting the urge to do something with immediate gratification. But we have to evolve an investment mind if we are to thrive or survive with this culture.

Last point: the skills you learn in meditation get transferred to when you're going about your normal day. You make choices rooted in investment instead of gratification. You know what successful people do well? Make investments.
