Moving to NYC at the age of 28, how is it going to be different from doing it in the early 20s?

28 is better than the early 20s in my opinion in NYC, and is the perfect age to move there. Youll be a bit more financially secure than in your early 20s, and finding 22 year olds fresh out of college living the dream starry eyed in the big city is a dime a dozen occurrence . It's very transient in nature and will probably take you a year or so to really nail down a social circle. But dating you can step right into on day 1.

A few things that will hopefully help

Dont have roomates if you don't have to. You would be suprised how big of a difference this makes in having your own studio or 1br. It's some weird adulting aphrodisiac to girls here. And in a city as crowded as NYC, coming home to solace can sometimes be the best part of the day to recharge.
wall hitters in NYC are notoriously ridiculous, moreso than other cities. Avoid like the plague. There are enough young girls there to where you never need date anyone over 30. Money grubbers and gold diggers in this age range and above are rampant.
There are 1000s of things to do, youll never find a lack of entertainment and events in which you can find a social circle. You just have to keep at it, because it can be challenging.
Always wear protection, everytime all the time. STD rates are high, and most of the women you'll meet will have several other dudes they are banging. It's a never ending buffet here for men and women.
Make sure your finances are in check, its expensive to live there, Have a financial plan and stick to it, dump an automatic 15% into your investments, saving, 401k etc, and dont count that as disposable income. It's easy to live it up and wonder where all your money went.
Things will go wrong often, always plan ahead. If your all alone and know no one trustworthy, get a deposit box (some can be accessed 24 hours a day), and put a credit card or debit card with some cash on it, copy of your key, an emergency 100 bill, copies of important documents, and a fully charged burner phone in there in case of an emergency. Keep an emergency 20 in your shoe when you go out so you can get to your backup shit if you need to( lost wallet, mugged, phone lost etc) If you have no support network, you have to rely on yourself. The same goes for any new place really.
