If the guy is your business partner and you move him in that means you will never be away from him. It also means if you have a disagreement, it might mess with your business (your income). Personally I don't do business with family or friends. It's a recipe for disaster.

Have you ever lived with this person before? In personal experience if you don't have compatible lifestyles it can be hard. e.g. if you're a clean person and roommate is not. They tend to be loud when you're sleeping etc

Also would want to be sure they are reliable with having rent/utilities on time. Having to cover their half of shit to avoid late fees is no fun and financial matters can definitely strain friendships. Personally if it's a not a financial strain, I'd say keep your place and invite friends over when lonely

I’m out of town for 3-4 weeks at a time for work, so I have a roommate to take care of things when I’m gone. We get along great, and it’s nice having the company when I’m home sometimes, but if I lived there full time there is no way I could have a roommate, even though we get along great right now. My point is, no matter how good of friends or how well you get along, if your spending that much time around someone you are going to start having issues with each other. Better plan would maybe be to buy a duplex instead of regular house and have your best friend live next door.

What is your sanity worth?

I live alone in an older 4 bedroom house.

If I were to have a room mate they would expect the entire house to be 21°C when they wake up and the minute they get home. Heat costs, plus electricity would likely outrun their rent for dec- March. So that's 1/3 of the year being a wash.

Then they would probably demand we go to Fibre optic internet. Right now I pay $65/month from a secondary isp. Fibre optic mid teir is $210/month. Theyd probably also want fibre TV with extras and sports packs $270/month plus another $20 for extra set boxes and expect to go halves on Netflix $19/month. So you may as well say another $1000 to the annual budget for something I have no interest in.

Next we get to all the usual suspects. Oh, I forgot to get to, laundry detergent, butter, just needed to use a few pantry cans. Ummm thought you wouldn't mind I ate all your frozen food when you weren't looking. Umm can I have a joint im too lazy to go to the dispensary. Sorry about downing the bottle of rum your now dead uncle brought back from Cuba.....

Then they inevitably couple up with a girl who also Hoovers more food, ruins towels. Wants to stage girls night out from your house cause its downtown 4 blocks from the bars.

And on top id likely have to rent a self storage locker to decanter and keep valuables and flip items from walking off.

Nope. Hard nope.

I've fortunately/unfortunately been living with my undergrad college buddy for the last 5 years now. I'm glad we don't work in same place.. anything in life can be too much after a point. Finally got a job change and moved out without much remorse, grateful but glad that it's over.

Dunno if I may point out the following, I hope it helps. Money wise, you probably won't safe all that much, in my experience (in theory yes, in practice: lots of additional expenses and stress).

Since you are 26 years old, that is below 30 years old, you might benefit experience-wise from living with a flatmate. If you didn't already grew up with lots of siblings or lived in college dorm. There is lots you can learn for your life from that.

Personally I lived together with other people 7 times over a span of 9 years. I learned a lot abou how to communicate and deal with other people; especially the deep rooted experience of how stupid and non-mindfull the average person is, was drilled down deep into my mind. Due to that I know how important it is to communicate clearly and succinctly.

A word of advice, I personally heed, If I may:

people will try to screw you over, especially if you meet them the first time
having a cleaning lady come every 2 weeks is a great way to make your life run more smoothly, they will be paid, do their service and you and your flatmates won't argue over cleaning. It's definitely worth 40 USD or even 50 USD in my experience.
choosing your flatmates:
you generally don't want a flatmate who shows signs of being a party guy/girl. They are often the kind of people who will blast their disco music aloud at 2AM while you may happen to have an unexpected appointment at 7 AM 100 miles away and will have to stand up at 5 AM. They usually aren't open to your feedback that blasting music loudly at 2AM when they feel like partying is not a nice way to treat the neighbors. Which will usually escalate to a lot of resentment between you and your flatmate in the aftermath.*
if you have flatmates where one is a man and one is a woman, where they say they are "just friends". Chances are, they aren't, and they in fact sleep with each other. I.e. as third person in a flat you would be the ass to clean and pay extra expenses as the pair will always be allied together.
if you want drama, choose women as flatmates (this also applies to nerdy- and trans-women)
if you aren't Chad, don't bother with applying for mostly female run flats

I am quite happy to live alone now.

Signs of a party guy/girl may be: styled hair, studying some nonsense-degree, lack of nerdy or substantial hobby (No, listening to music is not a nerdy hobby!), very easygoing to talk to (like as if they meet 10 new people every weekend and thus make every conversation run very smoothly)

P.S.: You won't safe all that much money wise when living with a flatmate, if you try to do things right and properly, because every other sucker won't give a damn about you and the apartment and not invest any extra cent towards cleaning or maintenance. If you are however ok to be considered the egomaniac asshole and if you are not concerned by a filthy kitchen with flies and rotting food all around you can save a few dollars by living with a flatmate.

Be careful. It's really hard to find a compatible roommate. If you don't, you'll drive each other nuts.
