It's where you turn off socially, accept that you need to work on both body and mind and come out weeks/months/years down the line, a new better version of yourself

Read this. I've been trying monk mode since xmas. I still socialize, just a lot less. I have been focusing on the gym, health & nutrition (little to no alcohol) and reading a lot more. Also, I am trying nofap again, I tried it a few years back and it worked wonders for me. I've also taken up meditation and yoga. Basically just set some goals and work on self-control.

There's no point to it

Unless your life is so fucked up you need time to decompress and reboot

Don't turn into a fucking ostrich and hide from the world

Use it to make a plan then go out and implement it

I was always one to go out and party. But every year that goes on I hate it more and more. Spend a bunch of money for a crowd of superficial people that I don't care about.

I kinda just want to live in a small town, hunt, fish and build a cabin. Chicks don't really like that kind of thing. I really don't even care much about them either.

/u/Jackrabbit710 has the jist of it.

Allow me to break it down further. First you need to swallow TRP. Once that's done, evaluate your life. - Are you disappointed with your life? WHY? - Are you depressed? - Is your social life shit? Do you have toxic relationships? - Are you in poor shape? - Are you struggling financially/academically? Not always mutually exclusive. - Is there a lack of excitement in your life?

These were all the questions I asked myself. The more difficult stuff was the mental/social. You need to figure out yourself, solve those problems, and get out of the mental ruts. You need to re-interpret reality, and put yourself as priority number 1.

It takes quite a bit of time, and a lot of effort (part of why people don't do it). The end goal is to transform yourself into someone you enjoy being.

Once you get the ball rolling, life gets SO much better.

What if I kind of hate much of society and don't want to take part in it.

[–]tempjewman0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

why do you hate society?

[–]Herculius1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Its not as much hate, I guess strong dislike is a better term.

I feel like everyone is chasing a the bs hollywood narratives for what we should do and be. Kardashian Instagram your life sorts of shit... all the elements creating a lot of the gender issues talked about on TRP (women can have it all perfect career and family)

On the business side its all causing everyone to bust their ass for corporate execs who don't give any shits when technology seems like it should have made work and life easier. Rampant corporate marketing and ease of consumption making more localized innovation less lucrative.

So yeah I guess I'm just a bit disillusioned with what I see is a rat race where nobody wins. So I just want enough money to go live somewhere cheap and simply and stay away from it.

I see. It sounds like you need to find a purpose. Something that monk mode can most definitely help with. I want to point out some observations though.

Whether you like it or not, things are the way they are because of how humans are wired. Society's existence is a result of human behaviour and growth. We are also social creatures. We thrive when in a community. Universities that do innovative research to cure diseases are a collaboration of individual effort and collective knowledge. Businesses exist to perform a function that the people are willing to pay for. Bad shit happens as a result. Good shit also happens as a result. Ying and Yang.

So yeah I guess I'm just a bit disillusioned with what I see is a rat race where nobody wins

The rat race exists for the comfort of the masses. Businesses need employees to run the business. Businesses need to ensure their employees are living within some threshold of their means.

That being said, there's still things to be gained from the rat race. For instance, a new graduate with no industry experience would initially thrive in the rat race because: 1. Domain knowledge about the industry is gained 2. You gain wisdom from the veterans in the rat race, shaving down your learning costs. 3. You create a network of people that can provide opportunities.

Find things you like about society. Non-profit organizations that promote sustainability of the earth, that sort of thing. Then, put your energy into making it better.

I was on the fence about abandoning society because I hated it. The society I live in wasn't Viking with me. I felt a cancerous negative feedback loop from all the events of my life that kept telling me that I didn't belong. A lot of introspection and seeing the world with a new lens helped me change into a much more positive person that see's hope in MY society.

From what I have seen on here, an excuse some guys here use to not get out there and be social/approach.

Its fine if used in the manner Jackrabbit710 describes, but a lot of people just use it for rationalization.

Yep, personally, I pretty much monk mode Monday through Thursday, then love my long weekends

Monk mode is when you need to focus on a certain goal. It's a temporary state of dropping the nonessential and highly prioritizing to maximize success or development in a certain domain. For example: right before finals would be a time when some folks go into monk mode to study and review all the material theyve learned throughout the semester in preparation for the final exams - their monk mode usually ends after finals, when they resume their social life and other activities they sacrificed to focus on studying.
