I a permanent Resident here in japan, I am married but we are living separately. we were married for donkeys years, I am a Brit, she is a Japanese. our relationship has sunk so fast we have not spoken for over 2 years.
She is the head of the family legally, I have still my health insurance under her name. She has her own business and I have my own. we are financially independent from each other.
Would changing my address and changing her not to be the head of the household. what impact would that be on me financially and in term of health and taxes.
any advice or pointers would be very much appreciated.
She does not want to initiate divorce and I am so broke I will not stomach a lawyer even for a tea break.
Cheers All.

Thank you very much for reaching out, I am Knackered physically and mentally.
I have just worked as hard as humanly possible to bring up a family and be the best husband I can be. 25 years of marriage, dedication and hard work were flushed down the toilet with a simple slight of hand from a Japanese woman that I have loved and cherished as someone I will be next to through thick and thin. She has pulled the rug under my fit so quick I was left spinning in the air not knowing what has happened or why. She was merciless and calculating just like a widow black spider.
I spend every waking free time I have, lost in the mountains, just trying to get grip of what exactly happened. I cried, I drunk, I slept for days and the reality of my situation would shake me out of my slumber not knowing why didn't I see this coming.
I am 57, no saving, no credit card in my name, no property in my name, no mode of transport apart from my bike and she still blame me I took everything.
I have a little lousy school that I am holding to with every hair of my eyelashes. but the nightmare is that she has her name on the contract of my school. She is practically has a loaded gun with her dirty finger on the trigger and the barrel is shoved right up my arse.
My only exit strategy is homelessness. live on the streets. I have even thought about getting a second basket on my old bicycle just in case, so I can carry what I really need.
I have called The British Embassy, and they highlighted to me that this is not a real emergency where they can assist me. according to them you are still married and still running a business. I was gobsmacked but that is the reality.
I am in progress looking for expats forums in hope of connecting with someone who is in the same predicament to try and find a less painful exit or at least the comfort to know that there is one more person just like me.
During the blighty Corona, I was entitled to help from the Japanese Government but sadly I could not get it simply because i could not prove my earning for the last year.
and to make things even worst, she said to me that she has not bothered to do any of my taxes for the last 4 years.
I was a plonker, a stupid and ignorant git that put my trust in my wife.
For now at least, I am aware that the only starting point I have is retreating and learn from licking my festering wounds, and my priority now is to try and salvage my mental grit and reclaim what is left of my fortitude. Because I now know for a fact that's what counts at least for me.
Anyways, I just want to thank you once again for your good words, have lifted my spirit and buoyed up my sinking rugged ship.
Thank you very much indeed.
