My wife has recently requested a divorce and asked that we do this as amicably as possible. She is rushing me that we do this NOW. She is requesting a no contest divorce and that we negotiate everything and that will save us a bunch of money in lawyer fees. Since I am still in the Army she is requesting a maintenance fee of 2300 a month for at least a year and it will be revisited in a year. Since we've been married for 24 years she is asking that once I retire then the maintenance fee stops but she is requesting 50%of my retirement. Since we own two homes that we are still paying she asked for one and she will continue to pay. I was not okay with that and she asked that I buy her off by paying 20k to her for the 5 years of equity. I haven't had a chance to see a lawyer since I am swamped with work. Unfortunately she is having her lawyer draft up the divorce so it can be served. I have been busy with work and the trying fix the mess she left with overdue mortgage payments and bills since she was the one taking care of the finances. Our kids are in college but I have a feeling she is taking advantage of my kindness and situation. Any feed back is appreciated.
