I'm buying life insurance (adulting).

I did a few quotes for a long term, term policy based on a fixed premium.

My payout almost doubles as a female than as a male.

I know ladies get lower premiums for car insurance, but this was still jaw-dropping.

My question is, what are the reasons for this discrepancy? Are those reasons justified?

Life expectancy in Canada for men and women is 93 and 96 respectively. So it can't be that. Right?
