So basically there's a girl who is comfortable touching me and reasonably comfortable with me touching her (legs, knees,shoulders, hands.etc) in front of her friends and her whale bestie.

While she was talking to someone else once she mentioned a boyfriend (I've just ignored that thus far because he is like goldfish, irrelevant to me), but she never directly addressed that with me. I got her number soon after that day, when she went out of her way to sit next to me on a couch when as a group we all went to sit.

She's on campus (small) so we bump into each other alot, sometimes I ignore her in the hall because I have stuff to do.etc I avoid hanging with her friends because that feels a bit like her "frame", but her whale bestie is always around her.

I have been befriending whale bestie the best I can so far, but am unsure if this is advisable.

I'm thinking I'll get a friend to enquire about whether she's single or not, but really before I do that does she see me as an orbiter or what? Is there any course of action advisable? I have not texted yet because that's how you fuck up I think.

Logistics are really shit for me, I have no car but I've got an empty bed one day a week on weekends.

I know you shouldn't zero in on a girl and I'm doing my best not to (working others in the background).
