A lot of the biblical stories, including the two creation stories in Gen 1 and 2 seem to have been an attempt to overthrow the abusive matriarchy that existed in the Middle East prior. They are re-written versions of earlier goddess cultures made to credit men men with creation and to blame women for problems.

E.g. God creates women by taking a rib from Adam while he slept implying 1. male primacy and 2. that men are more conscious than women (the sleeping idea.)

The arrival of patriarchal religion was a reaction to abusive matriarchy, which at the time commonly included child sacrifice.
