hopefully he and drake both die in a car wreck soon. i was loosely acquainted with drake way back when he was on that lame tv show, he's even worse. hell, if not for his money and current status, he'd be something below an omega.

drake the type of nigga to eat alphabet soup and choke on all the d's

[–]catlkthief 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Did you hear Drake is going to have a new line of air jordans? its going to be made out of the softest materials.

[+]blinkyone -10 points-9 points-8 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Let's not forget Drake is part Jewish.

[–]throwwhatthere 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No, let's forget it. I don't see how religion is relevant here. Like or dislike a man for his actions.

[–]blinkyone -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Give me a break, it has no bearing on me if he personally follows Judaism or not – and the degree to which he does as well. Perhaps I should have exemplified some more but I meant to make a differentiation between him and other successful artists in today's limelight. Though, I can understand the negative reaction for the brevity of the reply; however, it was not my intentions to offend – if anything, it's with apologizes if I came across this way.

I think his unatypical background and upbringing puts him in a slightly different category in comparison. I'm not denying Jewish rappers doing their thang, but if you watch his interview videos; he's just a regular middle class guy – similar to Kanye's family background with an educated mother being an university professor. Unfortunately, it seems there is less authenticity of actual 'hood mentality and self-deserving righteousness in lyrics nowadays – bastardization at its finest especially when YouTube Goliaths as well perpetuate commercializing the demise of this genre.

Personally, I believe collectively the music may be digestible in passing but we should realize that they aren't breed from the 'hood environment, thus their commercial success is warranted and embraced for and by the mainstream – which is reflected in the explosion of new followers of the non-'hood background. Again, I'm not denying mainstream folks (or anyone) listening to their choices in music and having a particular taste in picks – just trying to make a connection that I didn't make with a personal opinion and observation.

These are all really interesting points that your shorthand obscured. I'm glad that in hating on what appeared simple prejudice I spurred you to share these ideas.

[–]blinkyone 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No worries. Your reply was what I wanted to elicit as sometimes I realize you've gotta be a bit provocative to stir cutting-edge discussion. Though undeniably, despite wanting to stir up some discussion, albeit in a discrete sensational way, with his semi-distinct background, I was a bit apathetic and didn't execute it well. Oh well, but yeah what I was trying to imply that Drake has roots as a "nice Jewish boy," if we want to be explicit. Here he is talking about his Bar Mitzvah, if you want a more personal take on him outside his performance/stage personality.

Kanye West is going to crash in a few years. If you see his interview with Kimmel you noticed how he's been played around with and how insecure he is.

One day he's going to hit an artistic wall and it's going to fuck him up.

[–]harigeorgeson9 points 12 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. There were real rap beefs in the 90's. 2pac and Biggie are dead because of them. This guy has beefs with Taylor Swift and Jimmy Kimmel. Next James Franco and Seth Rogan.

Hip Hop as a whole has been more feminized.

[–]sushisection -3 points-2 points-1 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

To an extent. A lot of younger rappers- the odd future crew, mac miller, kendrick- have fairly RP lyrics.

Tyler the creator

[–]sushisection 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Him and earl sweatshirt are so good.

[–]RockinRhombus 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Considering his reactions to other criticisms, I'm amazed how he didn't flip out during this interview. He's just getting reamed by fact.

[–]sushisection 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think he has already hit that wall. Yeezus is a horrible album, it feels so contrived.

[–]ozymodeus 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"Aint nothin' real. This station start losing viewers, listeners, they turn this to like a office for like paper or somethin' like that."

A true genius.

[–]UnimpressedAsshole 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Yeah I seent a TV documentary about a paper company where the same shit happened. It's called "The Office" people educate yo selves and watch some documentaries."

[–]catlkthief 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ray jay for being as lame as he was his song "i hit it first" is a total RP move, Kanye didnt reply, BP status. Enough said

[–]GroverCleaverland 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's a lesson to be found in Kanye, I'm just not sure what it is beyond the typical attraction that people have watching a king fall from the throne. He's clearly alpha to an extent, but he hasn't really internalized what that means because he's so insecure.

[–]_DirtyYoungMan_ -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The man is a creative genius, there's no denying that. I bet all of the ideas he has in his head for fashion are way fucking better than what popular designers are working on right now, but going on interview after interview bitching about how he's been mistreated in the industry is just completely wrong (one could say bitch like). Pissing everyone off on his way to launching his own thing could very well be the nail in the coffin before he even gets off the ground.

Let this be a lesson to young men; do not piss off the established figures in your industry no matter how stupid you think they are.
