Happy International Women's Day everyone!

Before we get into the issue, here is a short backstory :

My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost a year and a half and have known each other for four years ( mostly long distance ). My university is in the city where he lives so we spend a lot of time together now.

I was in my hometown visiting family from mid-February until yesterday, March 7th. I got my boyfriend a gift for Valentine's day, and since he didn't get me anything, he said that he was " going to spoil me so much for the 8th of March " ( International Women's Day ).

I was okay with this. After I got back, we spent some time with his family and he said I was going to get " my presents " a day early. While I was in my hometown, he was hyping me up about " how he got me a lot of gifts " ( the number is a little under 30 allegedly ) and how much I was going to love them. I was very excited.

We went back to my place and I waited for him to bring the gifts from his car and show them to me one by one.

The first gift rolls around and it's a gorgerous hunting knife! I collect them and I was very excited about it! I thanked him and he went for the second one.

He gave me the cutest plush cat that I've ever seen. It was so fluffy and it had orange and black spots. I almost cried. I had no idea of the irony that was about to hit me. The next second, he pulls out a dirty, supposed-to-be white plush unicorn. It looked oddly familiar..

He pushes a big, blue trash bag into the living room and opens it up. It's full of plushies. I asked him about where he got them and his first answer was " not telling ". I asked him again, and he confirmed my inner suspicions. These were his old plushies. From his mom's apartment. The ones his dogs licked and put their dirt and hairs on. ( I get a bad rash on my skin from pet hair ) Some of them didn't smell too great.. I was at a loss for words and didn't know how to react.

I didn't need that many gifts to begin with, or the hype about how much I was going to love literally his old stuff. It feels tacky and distasteful. I felt offended because it made me feel like a poor child that's getting scraps and charity. Just that knife would've been fine, or a chocolate since he knows that I have a huge sweet tooth.

So, reddit, AITA?
