Japan is interesting since it's showing a broader theme: people are commoditizing everything into a service. If anything, we might reach a point where we too get "boyfriend as a service" just to satisfy any needs for romance a woman might want. And you see this theme not only in romance, but also in child-rearing, cooking, repairs, all kinds of tasks that used to be "fix it yourself".

Also somewhat ironic: Valentine's Day is generally woman-to-man only in Japan. I can't even think of a Western custom, US or EU, where a woman is meant to give a gift to the man she's dating (with or without implied reciprocation, like White's Day in Japan), birthdays aside.

Romance was and always has been a tool and a web created by society , movies , books and literature to lure and trap men into relationships marriages and enslave them in the matrix.Basically its an eyewash to present women as some sort of a prize or a desirable unicorn.To tell a person that this is the most beautiful thing there can be and widout it he wud b missing on something unique or important.
