TIL that according to academic literature, false allegations of rape, while relatively rare, are at least five times as common as false accusations of other types of crime

What the absolute crazy bat shit fuck. She wasnt in some camp in Hanoi being tortured and living with no gurantee for tommorow. Why should she get the title without any of the suffering.

Oh you have seen nothing yet! The entitlement of wives of military servicemen is absolutely disgusting.

You can find so many social media groups of service wives demanding to get preferential treatment and discounts based on no other virtue than them being married to military personnel.

It’s not to acknowledge they shouldn’t get something, or a little bit, but at some point it becomes less about “the sacrifice of the family” and more about entitlement.

Hardest job in the Marines is Marine wife. At least that’s what the bumper stickers I saw said. I guess making sandwiches is tough.

Discounts?

[–]Marty-the-monkey 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Getting things cheaper. Isn’t that called discounts? Veterans and active servicemen (along with their spouses) get discounts at stores :)

I didn't know this, not sure if it's done in the UK.

Certainly never heard of it from my mates who were in the Armed Forces.

I can’t remember if all stores do it, or if it’s optional.

My grandfather in law was regional manager of veterans affairs back in his days, and they got a lot of perks and discounts due to his military record.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's pretty awesome.

[–]Marty-the-monkey 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It’s a very nice little gift to show appreciation.

However when the spouses start feeling entitled to have these perks showered upon them, and demand the preferential treatment, sometimes even complaining that what they got isn’t grand enough. It starts seeming a bit ungreatful

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Right, appreciation is one thing, indulgence is another.

I'm not sure about the military but I know NHS staff get discounts. I don't bother using mine, at the end of a day its just a job and I get paid for it.

I also get really pissed off when I see people taking the mick. "I'm buying a coffee, nhs discount please!"

Really?

[–]JustJamie- 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If they are married they should get the discount because it financially benefits the service member.

I know a former military serviceman (I guess that's the right term) who told me the final straw for his first marriage was his wife telling people they should address both him snd herself by his rank.

Hell he didn't want to be addressed by rank outside military interactions he just wanted to be Jeff. *Name changed but you get the point.

This is extremely common, especially of officers' wives.

[–]RepentandFlee80 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He was an officer but can't remember what rank. I think captain or major. USAF. Could've been a LT. Hell I knew him since Kindergarten I wasn't about to start using rank to address him.

Wow, she was unfaithful, took over a hundred grand he earned with his service after divorcing him and she was given the house, the car and 40%, a near half, of his pension...what the hell?

Also no fault divorce is a laugh, and the lawyer saying 'emotionally involved', it was more than that, it was physically involved.

This case is nuts, and from the record, it was hardly an isolated incident. It comes off as rewarding the wife for being a bad wife and punishing the husband for doing his job and surviving a grueling experience that no human should go through.

[–]JustJamie- 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is the problem with this kind off divorce law.

As a male I would also like to apply to my suffrage check. While we're at it, can I also get my wage gap allotment.
