Do you know someone who was falsely accused? Well guess what. This means a story in a paper was written about them. It was shared on Facebook. Their life was destroyed before they even had a chance to defend themselves in a court of law. Not only should mug shots be held, but stories written about people committing crime is a type of defamation. I know there's a knee-jerk reaction against this, and there are reasons we may want to know about certain suspects. But think long and hard about this. A person's life can be destroyed before they enter the courtroom. That is not within the rights we have as citizens to have a presumption of innocence. There's this very sticky grey area. I understand the media has protections. I get it. But they can literally use information from court filings to defame and destroy individuals. Why is this a men's rights issue? Well, because people going to jail are men. This destroys men's lives. And I know a man who this happened to. He lost everything.
