Do female supremacists like Jessica Valenti actually believe the things they say, or do they just say it for money?

I think a lot of people tell themselves that they believe one thing but their actions reveal that that don't really believe it.

Something I have been thinking about is that people use their stated beliefs as a kind of personal affirmation. The beliefs allow them to view themselves as a good person, so its not really a belief about the world but a belief about themselves.

This affirmational belief explains the trolls we get who just come here to tell us how wrong and terrible we are. The makes statements about the world, but really they are just affirming to themselves that they are a good person.

Did you know the Nazis were willing to overlook the fact that one of the German scientists that made their chemical weapons was a Jew on the condition he ratted out his fellow Jewish scientists because they wanted to use his brilliance to make more chemical weapons? It's probably the same principle: the supremacists put up with certain men even though they hate all men because those men they tolerate benefit them enough to keep them around.

I don't know about her specifically, but I would say that some of those are genuine and some of those are in it just for the cash. For example, Warren Farrell was genuinely believing in feminism to the point he was on the board of NOW. But when he found contradicting evidences and tried to present it, he stayed true to his convictions rather than staying true to his paycheck.

I guess you can look for similar circumstances in those people's lives to try to make your mind, although keep in mind that people can also genuinely delude themselves.
