Divorced men of Singapore

Do you feel you have been treated fairly by the family courts here?

Recently I was made aware of a distant uncle of mine who has been going through a divorce that has lasted 3 years and over $200k spent in legal fees.

His wife had been cheating on him, filed for divorce and absconded with their children, quit her job and is demanding the marital home, alimony and child support up to a tune of a combined payment of $20k a month. He has since been forced out of the condo he paid for and is now living with his parents.

Apparently even though he has evidence of her infidelity, he still is potentially liable to make all those payments and also, the wife even though she cheated and caused the marital breakdown, still more likely to retain care and control of the kids.

Of course, I’m only hearing from his side (indirectly) but it seems very unjust. So I’m wondering what the experience has been like for other men in Singapore who have been divorced.

Would like to hear if it has been similar and how such an unjust situation could have arisen.
