Seems like the question is "What does circumcision mean for a girl?" Rather than just "circumcision". So I don't see your point? Are you saying if we google "what does circumcision mean for a boy?" It wouldn't mention it being seen as mutilation?

I would agree the male version wouldn't be similar but that's also a cultural issue not the Wikipedia answer. Circumcision in the US was done to control sexuality

I mean...both circumcision practices are rooted in controlling sexuality or 'indecent' desires, combined with a little religiousness sprinkled in. Both are bad, both potentially lethal. The difference lies in FGM style circumcision involving surgery is rather rare, fortunately, still bad though, and male circumcision is for some reason encouraged, its dropping off lately, but...still, hundreds of boys in America alone die from it.
