Crosspost "I finally left my abusive girlfriend." from /r/TrueOffMyChest:

She was verbally, physically, and sexually abusive. Couldn't defend myself because the first and only time that I did I almost got arrested. Despite it being beyond obvious I was the victim, the police just put me in the car and comforted her.

Woke up at 3AM last Saturday with her sitting ontop of me with a knife to my neck, she got off and laughed. Decided I can't do this anymore so I contacted my mother, my sisters, and my best friend to come help me pack up while she's at work. They came over yesterday and within three hours, I was gone. She blew my phone up for hours on end but I just ignored her.

I'm staying at my sister's place for now, for the first time in a long time I feel so safe and comfortable. I'm really grateful to have people in my life who care about me. I'm really looking forward to the future with hope for the first time.

Edit: thank you all so much for your thoughtful words and advice, it means a lot to me. I'll be going forward with some of the advice you have all told me. She's still blowing my phone up but I haven't replied, she's trying to get her friends to contact me.
