As a teacher, this type of behavior disturbs me to my core. When it’s a male teacher, it’s instant condemnation, that guys a pedo, prison time. Even if it’s a sniff of an inappropriate relationship—a rumor that’s unsubstantiated—that puts a job and teaching license at risk.

Firsthand, it is not the same for female teachers. Think about it:

Female teacher hugs her student. How sweet! They must be close, she probably made a big difference in this kids life.

Make teacher hugs his student. Inappropriate, may indicate a larger issue. Has nothing to do with the fact that that person may just be a close mentor or even a family friend.

Part of the reason I decided against teaching at the middle/high school level was because, during my internship. I always wore a polo or cardigan and slacks with keds, never even heels. But I had students trying to flirt with me and making under-the-breath comments about how my ass looks in those slacks. I got a long letter from a sophomore kid on the last day of my internship about how much he liked me and all the experiences I was present for. I’m not about to deal with that. I can’t imagine someone indulging the compliments of a kid. Such low self esteem.

I used the term molesting in the title despite the actual article title because not only is it appropriate but I'm pretty tired of news sources watering down women's crimes when it comes to preying on children by calling them 'relationships' or simply saying they 'had sex'. Making it sound like anything than what it is, which is a fully grown adult preying and grooming a young vulnerable child, is fucking terrible and really does a disservice to the victims by minimizing the seriousness of the crime.

I still dont give a fuck what anyone on reddit says. I had sex at first when I was 14. And I know damn well I would've fulfilled a fantasy by banging my smoking hot teacher. I would not have been "traumatized " whatsoever. And I know I'm wrong, but I just dont see how it would hurt a boy (not girl) at that age.
