Consider this, in most households where the husband isn’t an abusive deadbeat arsehole, which constitute the vast majority in spite of the dubious claims of some rad fems, the decision of who gets to do the majority of chores generally falls on the party who isnt in full time employment or have enough leisure time to do the necessary chores to maintain an acceptable state of hygiene and appearance of the home.

Now as someone who does his own chores, I get that cleaning up a modern home may not be the most enjoyable experience. But the fact that women are complaining about doing a few chores in an age where modern conveniences has made maintaining a clean home easy is a bit ridiculous. If women who bemoan doing chores as oppressive/succumbing to evil gender roles want to rectify the situation, they easily could. Just marry a decent egalitarian man who works part time and who can do the chores traditionally done by a casually employed women or a stay at home wife, whilst they can focus on the rat race. But the vast majority of women who do complain about female gender roles being thrust upon them by their own choices and circumstance, are also the same women who would be repulsed by the idea of a man who didn’t conform to traditional make expectations and gender roles. These women have enough agency to easily rectify the situation, but choose not to, because they value the idea of a primary male breadwinner more so than their own emancipation from the drudgery of domestic duties. Or perhaps more likely, they unconsciously realise they have the better deal.

I think the household chores debate is an exercise in hypocrisy and self delusion from overly privileged western women, who would much rather complain for the sake of complaining than exercise their own agency to fix their problems. It’s also telling how simple the solution is(choose an egalitarian partner) but the vast majority of women who complain about this issue as proof of some patriarchal conspiracy to maintain gender roles for women are doing exactly this to men whilst denying their own role in creating this issue.
