Swiss women are still crying opression, because we didn't got the female vote until 1971, but they seem to forgett that male universal voting right was implemented also in 1971! Before that, every part of switzerland had it's own laws how men could maybe get that vote (for example only men that earn a certain minimum, men that own land or men that have served the military etc) and still, men got the voting right only under the condition, that they have to serve the military in some way. Until the present day, men have to serve. I got the vote, just because I turned 18. My husband was forced to enlist (or else get to jail) and there it was decided, if he was physically able to serve and loose almost a year of his life. He was seen unable to serve do to health issues, so he was send home and forced to pay 3% of his taxable income for the next 11 years or face jail time. He never had a choice, he couldn't even give up his vote to safe himself this crap, he was forced from the get go. I was given the exact same right for free, without enlisting, service or payments, just because of my gender. And women in switzerland still cry opression and equality (of course without military duty and keeping the lower retirement age). Sometimes, I am ashamed of my own gender

This gives me hope. This makes me feel like we can make change as long as people are willing to look at what we show them, and then actually NOTICE the inequality.

The amazing thing about this is that Switzerland is an outlier in terms of women's suffrage in the west--women didn't get the vote until 1971. What a bunch of sexists!!!

But as with most situations, there's an entire other side of the story.
