The same answer to so many other gender issues: gynocentricism.

During women's liberation movements, we as a society give women more and more legal and social rights and privileges while men get none.

During the 60s, women's liberation was heavily focused on being allowed to wear what they want to wear, hence the public bra burnings. Society just said "Fuck it, let them dress how they like." When men raised their hand to ask if they could too, they were told to get back to work.

Because feminists have had nothing to do since the 50's, so now wearing business attire is a form of patriarchal oppression.

Paint any criticism against you as "misogyny". It'll be no surprise if in 10 years, women walked naked in the workplace and anyone who complained loses their jobs because misogyny.

I think that women's clothing comes in a much larger variety, so the lines are more blurry.

For men, formal is a suit, business casual is a button-up shirt, and casual is a polo. It's very clearly delineated.

For women, it gets more ambiguous. Is this dress casual or business casual?

When the lines are less clear, it's easier for standards to drift.
