She should have been charged and convicted for her violent attack but a punch 5 minutes is not self defense. It was retaliation and he’s very lucky not to have been charged.
Pro Tip: If somebody tries to kick you in the balls like this, put your knee in front, that's literally all you need to do to block that sort of thing, no need for any fancy blocks when dealing with most people. More than likely because they don't know how to kick they're going to end up breaking their toes on your leg if they're genuinely trying to hurt you and then they'll look like complete morons on top of it.
I consider this perfectly acceptable self-defence, she was told not to kick him, she kicked him and he punched back. Her 'friends' sound like absolute scum and are the exact sort of people I'd keep an eye on afterwards. They are probably going to be looking for revenge and may try to pick a fight when no one is around to back him up.
I did this at a party when I was 14. The girls at the party colluded on kicking someone in the balls, I was the smallest guy there and they thought I would be the least likely to cause a stir if they did it. The biggest girl in the place kicked me in the balls, and when I got up off the ground, I absolutely decked her.
The older brother of the girl hosting the party took me aside, and told me we don't hit girls, and I said that I had a legitimate right to defend myself, told him that people have DIED from being kicked in the balls, and that I wasn't going to apologize for responding to a premeditated attack like that.

Flip the genders and literally no one would be chastising op for not showing restraint.

Good on you for holding your ground. A lot of people tend to cave under high amounts of social pressure.
