Just curious, how many mods here are women?

Article's last paragraph says Katie Bouman's wikipedia "carries a paragraph detailing her viral story and the harassment". That paragraph comes from the last paragraph of this article.

Removed because the linked post does not say anything about being funny.

What part of that says it's funny? It's in TIFU and there are two edits about how she wasn't gloating and knows it's horrible which is why she posted it. The only part about it being "funny" I can see is that her boyfriend laughed afterwards, but she certainly didn't.

Literally gloating.

Posted this story online after admitting to kicking a man in the head as hard as she could because she was mad.

Yes, it's not like people could lie in an edit or she's just saying that because people were (rightly so) calling her out on her toxic behavior. /s

The subreddit is "today I fucked up". The fact that she posted there makes it clear to me she felt that she fucked up.

Yes, and people can lie, have ulterior motives.

She admitted that she was mad and kicked him in the head as hard as possible.

By all indications, she posted their to gloat about kicking a guy in the head and getting away with it.

She can lie and claim he laughed it off, or that she wasn't gloating, etc. but she could also say she has 4 arms.

The point of the post was to gloat about kicking a guy in the head without repercussion.

Well, if you decide to interpret everything positive as a lie, and anything negative as the truth, then sure, you can find anti-man stuff everywhere.

The question here would be, if a guy had posted the same thing ("I fucked up, my boyfriend didn't believe me that I kickbox because I'm tiny, I met his gym buddies who all made fun of me and he didn't even wear any protective gear, he was so condescending I got pissed and just went all out kickboxing him, and ended up hitting him super hard in the head. I really fucked up!") would you also think he did that to gloat? Or do you only think that because it was posted by a woman?

Facts.

Poster said they were angry and kicked guy in the head as hard as they could.

Received no repercussions.

You are defending this.

[–]Avistew 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because I asked if you would consider a man to be lying as well, I am defending kicking people in the head? I disagree.

She regrets doing it, which accounts for a lot in my opinion (of course, you're deciding she doesn't actually regret it for reasons I still don't understand).

But let's look at the situation, in context. They were in a gym. They had a supervised fight. The guy decided not to wear gear. Stupid decision on his part (like not wearing a seatbelt or helmet) but in this case the person who would end up liable is the coach/trainer who is in charge and didn't insist that he wear proper gear.

Yes, she is the one who hit him, and she of course bears that responsibility. But she didn't just do it in the street randomly, which would be assault. She did it after warning her opponent about her training, when the opponent wanted to spar with her. She shouldn't have used as much force as she did against him, but kicking him in the head is part of the sport they both agreed on, not just something random she did.

If he had kicked her ass, I wouldn't call it assault, because it was a sports match. I also don't think it's assault that she kicked his ass. It was indeed dangerous, but because of the lack of proper equipment to protect him, equipment that was available but that he decided not to wear because he was underestimating his opponent.

Because she was a woman and he was a man, you're framing it like she was hoping to assault him and then is gloating that she did and won't be punished for it. This is not the context or content of the post. That's what I'm pointing out.

When athletes fight on a ring and hurt each other, it's part of the risks they agreed on, not assault.

Taking posts like hers and making it some sort of anti-male agenda just makes us look bad, like we'll take any excuse to blame women, the same way feminazis blame men for everything. That's not something I am willing to do, which is why I suggested pretending she was a man for a second. If your problem with the situation is then gone, then that means you're the one treating genders differently.

You think she regrets kicking somebody in the head as hard as she could?

You think a rapist regrets raping somebody?

That's like saying, "Teach men not to rape!"

You think she's retarded and doesn't realize what she was doing when she decided to KICK SOMEBODY IN THE HEAD AS HARD AS SHE COULD BECAUSE SHE WAS ANGRY?

There's a difference between easily beating him and knocking him out while he's not wearing protective gear...

[–]Religion_N_Polyticks[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If a guy did this to a woman, he would be charged with a crime most likely.
