Hollywood actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman are among 50 people charged in a $25 million college entrance exam cheating scheme, according to court documents unsealed Tuesday.

The alleged scam focused on getting students admitted to elite universities as recruited athletes, regardless of their athletic abilities, and helping potential students cheat on their college exams, according to the indictment unsealed in Boston.

Authorities said the FBI investigation, code-named Operation Varsity Blues, uncovered a network of wealthy parents who paid thousands of dollars to a California man who boosted their childrens' chances of gaining entrance into elite colleges, such as Yale and Stanford, by paying people to take tests for their children, bribing test administrators to allow it to happen, and bribing college coaches and administrators to identify the applicants as athletes.

"This case is about the widening corruption of elite college admissions through the steady application of wealth, combined with fraud," said U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Andrew Lelling.

I have multiple, and possibly contradictory strains of thought about this. On one hand, parents using their means to give their kids whatever advantage they can, I understand that.

And on the slapping hand, this is just one more piece of evidence that the 'best and the brightest' aren't really such, they are just the offspring of the 'best-connected and wealthiest' who proceed to cover their nepotism and in-group biases with the fig-leaf of meritocracy.

Always be suspicious of those who rule over you, or aspire to do so.

Loughlin, best known for her role in the sitcom "Full House," and Huffman, who starred in the ABC hit show "Desperate Housewives," were charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services fraud.

Loughlin and her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli agreed to pay bribes totaling $500,000 to bolster their two daughters' chances of gaining admission to USC, court papers say. Huffman and her husband, the actor William H. Macy, paid $15,000 to get one of their daughters unlimited time for her SAT test, prosecutors say.

Ouch. This is called by the very technical term 'being federally fucked.'

But this is just another example of people who hold themselves out as your 'moral betters' (#MeToo/#TimesUp) engaging in behavior that is, by their own standard, immoral.

Time's Up on silence in Hollywood, but let's keep silent about this $50k I'm paying this crook to get my kid into Yale. Listen to me bloviate about 'raising daughters in the MeToo' while I give $15k to get said daughter into a college she doesn't deserve to be in.

They say there is no honor among thieves, and I feel that the saying does apply here to an extent. #MeToo / #TimesUp have been taking advantage of the desperation of legitimate sexual assault victims to promote thinly-veiled animosity towards men, and then it turns out one of their most prominent is an alleged abuser herself (Asia Argento), and now this. Then with the Women's March, they had the scandal involving Louis Farrakhan helping to severely lower their attendance this year. A house built on a weak foundation cannot stand for long.
