For sure. Men have a different approach to addressing their mental health issues on average and treating them the same way as we treat female patients is generally not effective. There definitely needs to be a male focused approach.

There are also structural problems with the few survivors counselling services that accept male patients. Their advertising, websites, buildings and even offered reading materials send the message that they are not male friendly spaces and that their services are female focused. This reinforces the cultural message that sexual violence is a female problem.

In the UK the charity Rape Crisis only offer funding to counselling services that have "women only days" which is not only ridiculous as the vast majority of services do not accept male clients(and so women that do not want to be around men can go to those) but reinforces the male perpetrator/female victim paradigm. Imagine going in as a male victim and being made to feel like women need protection from you or that women that are uncomfortable around men are catered to but not the reverse.
