I think it is best viewed as: people outside of our gender (and their allies within our gender) are trying to police our gender according to their wants.

Being told to "man up" does not mean "be masculine", it is telling men to shut up and accept their lot.

Edit: As is normal, I think a great example is to flip the genders to examine the issue. Try telling a woman to "woman up" or "be a real woman", and by that, mean they need to get in the kitchen and make you a sandwich.

You would be trying to force your idea of what it is to be a woman on a woman, when she and her gender should get the say as to what their identity is.

I'm kinda new here but I think the reason why people on this sub don't like being told to "man up" by feminists is because while radical feminism claims that masculinity is inherently toxic they will actually then turn around and say that men should "man up" if they feel threatened by their views. Granted I think they do that on purpose knowing that it's hypocritical but in the end it's all just a shit show. Not all feminists do this but it's a common occurence.

At least on here people know better to say that masculinity is toxic and then contradict themselves in the next sentence. Just a theory.

We don’t define femininity, and we have not since at least the 1950s. Yet from the 2010s onwards, there has been a radical precedent set, in that women have increasingly been in control of the definition of masculinity, specifically white males. In the recent Gillette video, it shows white males perpetrating most of the negative stuff!

This toxic femininity needs to be washed away and replaced with actual gender equality not this “treat me like you would a man until I’m in need of something” stuff. The West will not survive another century if this crap continues.

It's because feminists are lecturing us from a disingenuous position, it's not that they're telling men to 'man up' they are telling men to shut up because men are in fact acting like men and telling them to fuck off with their sexism. Feminists write in fucking ideological code the majority of the time, once you crack that code, then it becomes a lot easier to understand the lunatics.

Men are being men and they fucking hate it because they can't control us here so they try to resort to shaming us since that's all they know. Ironically, they also participate in the very toxic masculinity they claim to be so against, they're more than happy to shame men when they speak about anything.

Men don't want women defining masculinity.

I don't really see the issue.

If we express our feelings we want to do it on our terms- too many men here have had a partner ask them to open up and when they do - find out that their partner really just wants to hear their opinions echoed back at them or have it thrown in their face

There's a massive double standard for a feminist to tell people to 'man up'. They are imposing the 'restrictive and toxic gender norms' that they rally against on men.
