It's time we rethink the way science is done.

It needs to be more open and democratic. With far more emphasis on reproducibility.

Governments primary job should be to fund and reward research that invalidates, replicates or somehow demonstrates limitations of popular research papers..

With equal importance is funding research of "hard" science. Like physics, mathematics, biology and, to some extent, medicine. I put hard in quotes here, because it is a misnomers. Compared to soft sciences, "hard" sciences are very easy. It's why we can get such reliable results in those domains.

Next, governments should give funding and free latitude to those institutions with a history of producing popular scientific papers whose results have been replicated.

And this might be dreaming too much, but I would also love to see that when a research paper's ideas hit the mainstream, or politics, that studies be made as to the accuracy of people and policy maker's understanding of those papers. Institutions that produce papers whose contents are misunderstood by the public should be penalized.

With this, we'll be able to say goodbye to the Duluth model, and most of privilege and patriarchy theory.
