So let them raise children. Nothing wrong with that. Women should also work, amd repair their own plumbing. Also, change their own tires and oil. And also build their own homes.

There's not enough hard data to really conclude anything much. But it might be the feature of mammals that leads to infants being eliminated when the biological male parent is replaced by a new male. Either the new male or the mother, or both in co-operation eliminate the young from the prior male to establish the new relationship.

This happens in humans too because humans are mammals, however it usually isn't fatal. It might be that a lesbian relationship doesn't trigger this behaviour. But who knows?

Children need two parents more than they need a mother and a father. Most people are heterosexual so most two-parent households will need a father.

I think having two parents able to share the load is the fundamental element. Of course that then begs the question why children of single father's fare better than those of single mothers but that's a different issue entirely.
