I only became aware of this today, but there is a concept known as "linchamiento mediatico" which means something like "intermediary lynching" or "media lynching" which specifically refers to using digital means to cause direct harm to someone's honor or reputation via a grand-scale poisoning of their person through false or knowingly unverified/unsubstantiated claims. This is gradually being accepted in nation after nation, with legislation being created in a couple of nations (Not Mexico yet) to handle it. The idea is to protect existing rights and create laws against acts like witch hunts that seek to violate the rights of others.

I will link and translate an article that talks specifically about how the rights of the citizenry should be protected from this heinous crime.... direct translations are very messy so bare with me, here goes;

Premeditation, advantage and grand-scale acts.

One of the more perverse qualities of the "media lynching" exists in its massive public impuning . There is no going back. Calumnies, lies, rumors, intrigues..... false claims and in general, all hostile/harmful acts established by the civil and penal code, will be especially virulent when exposed directly to the public, without borders or possible measure to restrict. No one can repair the damage done by a simple viral spread of a pre-packaged soup of lies, added with disturbed fascination and systemic impunity [ I just realized that Spanish is incredibly flowery compared to English, I've been speaking both for over 30 years lol ]. Such as is the case with capitalism and all of the specialists in lynching, no one is safe.

Some believe that the judicial term "media lynching" is an exaggeration that does not carry any legal weight. Some believe it is possible to penalize those that participate in the "lynching" act, without fear, without remorse and without mercy; Directly harming liberty of expression in one of it's various liberalist representations (?). There are no absence of those that reject , in radical terms, the concept of "media lynching", with filological excuses, to reject entirely the body of law that indicate that such acts are heinous and must be prosecuted.

The agravating circumstances of premeditation , advantage and malice make "media lynching" a participarly heinous crime. On top of being committed in public with mass disemination and depth, the harm itself is for the most part, incalculable [Again, I had never noticed how flowery Spanish is compared to English, this is blowing my mind]. The damage to the target in social circles, far and near, is irreversible and the extent of this damage must be noted in the considerations of this act.

The association of the terms "media" and "lynching" function to solidify a proper categorization of delinquency that cuirrently does not have a proper precedent.

Targets have no defense or method of clearing their name in any proper capacity. No one knows exactly who or how many conspired to commit the act. But what is known is the level of damage that the act commits and it should be treated with the appropriate level of consideration that a life-destroying act should be given.

TLDR

Because I don't watch TV, I was not aware that this was happening. Apparently witch hunts , on top of violating calumny, are going to have specific legislation created against them. Assuming that jackass AMLO doesn't put a stop to this somehow, this bodes well for my nation's advancement, and also the other nations in "latinamerica" as well.
