women having more rights and more freedom than they've had in the past, or, equal rights to men
I know what they're trying to say with "or" here, but hilariously it can also mean that they are two different concepts as well. Which, as I'm sure everyone on here would agree with, they are.
... does NOT equal LESS rights for men.
i think this is a big disconnect with how a lot of men are viewing feminism these days. so many men hear the word "feminism" and run the other direction, treating it like a dirty word, like something that is always "coming to get them".
Because it is. And this is shown time and time again, including, I would argue, with this post. See, you're desperately trying to convince us that this movement that doesn't care at all about men, and that has systematically opressed men for decades now, is good? And not only that, you're shaming us for it?
if one is secure in their own power, one would not feel threatened by another's power.
You're entirely correct, we're not secure in our own power, because we have next to none in this society. Yes, of course we're threatened by your power, all you have to say is "he raped me", and my life is gone.
(Ignoring the rest of the sentence, as it relies on the assumption that we're secure in our power)
if you can't root for the women in your life to grow & flourish
Except we do, we root for the friends in our life, regardless of who they are, to grow and flourish. That's kind of what friends do. Not supporting a political group that's known to systematically oppress men (and women who disagree with them, or women that aren't "oppressed enough") doesn't mean I suddenly hate all women.
& feel safer
Feel safer? Or be safer? There's a difference. Feminism has done a wonderful job of making women feel incredibly unsafe, but that doesn't mean they are actually unsafe.
exploring all of the different facets of being a women[sic]
You'd definitely never see "exploring all the different facets of being a man", would you?
and the VERY LEAST, you should simply feel "unaffected". because that's just it. it does not affect you
Except it does? #metoo, providing tens of thousands of false accusations, sometimes to men that have never even met them. Or women trying to kick men out of their jobs because they're not oppressed enough. Or the constant man-hating posters you see everywhere. Men having no rights to see their own children, and usually have everything taken away in divorces. Sorry, but, yes, it does affect us.
this IS a human issue, but this IS A WOMENS ISSUE. it is not "up for discussion" for men to "weigh in on".
Except it affects men, so, yes, it is something men have to discuss as well. You're actually half right, if it was a women's issue, then men wouldn't need to have a say in it. But this isn't a women's issue, this is an issue affecting women. This isn't just semantics, there's a very clear difference here. A women's issue would be something like periods, an issue women have, but it has nothing to do with anyone else. An issue affecting women is an issue that, to fix, almost by definition requires working with/against the thing that is causing the problem, in this case, men.
When that is the case, for example, with women's rights, then yes, by definition it requires discussion with men.
if you can't help us progress, simply, stay to the side and let us do it ourselves.
Someone should dub that to one of the Hitler speeches. "If you can't help us destroy you, simply stay to the side, and let us destroy you ourselves".
so many men FIGHT feminism, because they think it represents a change in THEIR lifestyle.
Lifestyle? Not sure, not really the problem here. Life? Absolutely.
one that they believe has been working for them for a long time
The world before feminism was working for millenias (at least families in general were), so, yes?
they are comfortable feeling silently and secretly superior to women in small ways, ways that they might not even be conscious of.
Right back at you, mrs. "I'm morally superior to you", "the future is women", and "women are more caring than men", probably among others. Yes I agree, we all do bad things to each other without realizing it, but that's something inherent about everyone, including you.
and this is because they are too overly identified with societies definition of masculinity. they feel safe in their role in life that has been laid out for them.
Fantastic, you've just admitted guys have their life and expectations layed out for them by society. Men have to go to war when asked, men have to be the breadwinners for the family (or the alimony givers in the case of a divorce), men are expected to give up their lives, figuratively or literally, for women and children.
[...] when something comes along to challenge that or represent the world in a different, more accurate light,
More accurate, according to whom?
one not CRAFTED by society
Who is it created by then? Aliens? I know what you're trying to say here, but the problem with your argument is that your new ideal is also crafted by society, specifically, feminism.
certain types (not just men) will respond with fear, anger, and aggression.
You know, it helps when the people promoting this new light don't promote it by figuratively (and literally) spitting at everyone, claiming that what has worked for millenias never worked, and setting a horrible example for what this new way of being would look like.
those 3 words are very closely linked in human behavior.
I don't disagree, I just don't see what was the point in this sentence?
they may also be silently angered by this, because they feel repressed by masuline ideals
Toxic masculinity? Seriously?
very wounded in by the idea that other people (women, LGBTQ+ people) can get everything that they are, while also shedding their societal mold, or "what it should be"
Except they already do have everything we have, more in fact, as they don't have to sign up to give up their lives to have access to the basic rights they have. We do. Legally, you have more rights than us, and have had for decades.
let's also make it ok for men to shed their masculine ideals. this is important as well. we all think this is important as well.
Again with the toxic masculinity
gender is only defined by YOU
Well, I could go on about that, but suffice to say, gender is not a social construct, come on.
NO ONE should be able to impress and impose the needs of the some onto the needs of the entire human populous.
Exactly! Which is why schools shouldn't be forced to confused the shit out of every child and possibly ruin part of them for life to account for the very, very few that have gender dysphoria for life (while it is rather normal for children to have it at a young age, I had it too, but more than 99.8% IIRC, myself included obviously, get out of it). Sorry, I said I wouldn't talk about this. Right, Feminism. Which is why you shouldn't impose your "needs" onto workplaces to make them more "female-friendly". By that, I mean, kicking out male employees because they're male and hiring purely based off of gender instead of capability. Or anything else, really. In other words, I wholeheartedly agree with you there.
The next sentence is about the gender stuff, I'll avoid it.
this is an arrogance, an ignorance, a misplaced aggression and it is the absolute opposite of love.
In order to avoid talking about it, I'll talk about feminism in general. The reason people are "kicking and screaming" and "making a big fuss about it" is because it's harming people. It's genuinely causing harm to people, sometimes even the very people you're trying to help. Feminism caused many of the sexism problems against women, and when they make things worse, you again blame it on men. There's a reason both men and women hate it so much, and that's because it's causing harm to everyone, it's just a bunch of knee-jerk reactions, and nowadays, usually made out of hatred. Yes, the "absolute opposite of love".
to summarize: [...] and not assume that we all know what's best
Agreed, but that includes you. You don't know what's best either.
let's also fight for the rights and freedoms of EVERY HUMAN
Agreed, which is why I'm so strongly against feminism.
because we are all on the SAME SIDE
That sentence was probably just added to add effect, but that honestly makes no sense. The only similarities we all have, is that we're all human, and living. In fact, isn't that what you're trying to promote here, diversity?
instead of imposing [...] certain beliefs
Like feminism, and other things I said I wouldn't mention
or acting out of anger
Feminism wouldn't exist if that didn't happen, so, sure, I agree.
let's be PASSIONATE about LOVING each other
Alright, stop hating us and getting out of your way to make our lives miserable simply because we're men then.
we may not even know what's best for ourselves
True. That's why you shouldn't say we're "not loving" for not agreeing with an ideal we think is going to cause more harm than good.
"ignorance, the root and stem of all evil"
Why are you quoting that? Didn't you just say we might not know everything that's right? Are you implying you just knew what was right, so you taught us that?
While I actually agree with a number of her points, they work against her quite a lot, and often contradicted each other. It also often felt like she wanted to write a bunch of "feel good" sentences, rather than make many points. Her arguments are kind of all over the place, but it seems to boil down to "feminism isn't hurting guys" (which is ignorance, "the root and stem of all evil"), and "nobody knows what's right and nobody should imply their ideals on others, so agree with our ideals and believe what we think is right, or else you're an horrible insecure person".
On an unrelated note, are these kinds of posts acceptable for this sub? I personally enjoy reading rebuttals, as they help me understand the flaws in arguments that are often presented. I also sometimes find flaws in rebuttals, which help me further with my viewpoint. And of course, I'm sure there are many flaws in this post, so feel free to call them out.
