I believe most people view it with distinction being between depression and a life altering, life ending condition. Along with doing it in secret compared to a physician assisting. There is feeling hopeless, then there is facing months or years of agonizing pain and disability.
No offense but I work, both as a career and a volunteer, with kids who have suffered all manner of abuse and cannot get support to work with male children to keep them alive. Either through suicide prevention or keeping them out of jail, or at least keeping them from going back. If I want to do programs with girls the federal government will make me filthy rich in grants for the effort. I have only worked with homeless men, and there is nothing for them. To be fair, there is nothing for women either, so at least we have equality there.
