What kind of backward dirt hole is Australia that they tell boys they have to play in one section and girls have to play in another? They didn't that shit in American when I went to school in the 70's. They don't it now... "free time, go play." WTF stupid shit goes on in these countries?
Are we talking 10 cent toys at McDonald's or removing valid words from school? Doesn't change the fact that the people complaining apparently are also forcing kids into the roles the complain about. My wife is a teacher. There are as many boys playing in the dress up section as there are girls playing with Legos and blocks.
It has nothing to do with defining gender. It is about giving kids multiple ways in which to develop the necessary skills to be functional adults. Using their minds and the bodies and figuring out how the world works and how we interact with it.
The ones complaining are the ones guilty of trying to force things on kids. Now they are guilty of trying to destroy the use of language in a valid way.
