Family, civil or criminal courts may grant the new orders on a “freestanding application” from a victim or a member of their family or a support service without the need for police backing.

... but once the order has been granted, I guess the police will be involved to enforce it. Also, I wonder what the list of recognized "support services" will look like.

Seems like all it takes is an accusation to be treated like a criminal. Then they're going to wonder why marriage and birth numbers go down.

It worries me because it’s very insidious by nature - it’s not like this isn’t already an area that’s absolutely rife with false accusations in order to gain advantages like legal aid or the upper hand in divorce (in civil courts) and custody (in family courts).
