ars technica and it's readers are quite convinced that anything short of 50% of STEM being women is a clear sign that society is discriminating against women and that something needs to be done. Check the comments.

Here's how the article starts...

Boys are confident they can do science even if they're not especially good at it.

A large number of social factors have discouraged women from pursuing careers in science and technology.

The general impression one gets is that girls are better than boys at STEM and some invisible force is keeping them out of STEM fields (invisible, but most likely hostility by men and stuff like that).

Don't count on ars for an unbiased look at anything.
