Last Friday I was watching the 20/20 episode about Larry Nassar, the doctor for the US Olympics Gymnastics team who molested (at some estimate) maybe thousands of young female gymnasts whom he supposedly treated.

One of the victims said something that made me think and I know she was speaking from her pain, trauma and experience. She said "When women report sexual abuse, it should be believed the first time".

If you are a LEGITIMATE victim of sexual abuse, I can understand that. But more and more with the #metoo and #timesup movement we are seeing women (like the Aziz Ansari accuser and Nicole Eggert vs Scott Baio) and countless unnamed others who either make things up or redefine consensual scenarios to make themselves victims just to be "a part of a movement". But what so many people do not realize, that in their pursuit of vanity they discredit the legitimate cases. It makes no sense to me.

This thought made me angry.

What Larry Nassar did was despicable. Not only did he abuse those girls, but he also shot some videos of him abusing them for his perverse pleasure. When he was arrested he had 37,000 child porn images (on 4 hard drives found in his trash can). His victims and their families deserve justice.

The girlfriend and I spoke about it after the program. How many #metoo claims are legit? The media have given a title to the women abused by Larry Nassar... they call them "Sister Survivors" and define them as strong and brave women.

When people see that, how many would want to be recognized as a member of that group for the recognition it got disregarding the legitimate pain those women went through?

I guess I am rambling here, but the concern is real. I have two sons and one of them is dating age. I know I have raised my sons well to know what is wrong or right. My elder son and I have talked about romance and sex. It's scary that what maybe a consensual act between him and a girl might lead to something that could become a nightmare. There was a time that only two things we were concerned about as guys was getting her pregnant or getting an STD. Now men are faced with something that can possibly ruin their lives more so. No evidence, just the words of a sobbing female. The court of public opinion is both unreasonable and unrelenting.

Very scary thought.
