I read the article and took away several key points.

The committee tasked with finding if there was a gender-based wage gap was entirely female, including professors and assistant professors with a vested interest in the results of their own study and conclusions.
The union representing the professors did not contest the conclusion and failed to properly respect the male professors, all of whom were excluded from the pay increase.
60% of all female professors were able to be paired with a male professor hired at the same time, but the 40% without a matching professor were used as an example that there was 'insufficient data' to fully rule out the gender-based disparity.
The move to increase these salaries has, by it's very nature, created the gender-based disparity it sought to correct. It was hopped that the move would be simply ignored because it was recommended by the committee whose job it was to equalize the gap.
The committee used data from only 4 highly specific programs for it's conclusions, which do not reflect the entirety of the colleges that needed to be examined.
An outside, US based consultant reviewed what little data was provided and found it "troubling", and the lack of evidence is enough that many are starting to question the committee's conclusions.

In conclusion, the results are highly controversial and already being questioned by both male faculty and outside consultants. The union failed to properly represent their male members, which will likely lead to them selling council against their own union. The pay increase did nothing to fix the gender-wage gap and infact only made a situation worse.

Fucking Laurier. My Uni is a five minute walk from this one, and it honestly feels like they get hit with every problem while my school just keeps on going as normal.

Strikes, sjw bullshit, media controversies, walk-outs. Always at Laurier, never at U Waterloo.
