That statement probably reveals what a lot of judges have in mind when they're sentencing women and especially mothers: they don't really want to punish them, they're actually more concerned about her well-being than the threat she poses to others

That bullshit excuse "she has children to take care of!" used for mothers is particularly infuriating to me, because I was raised by an abusive mother who had already been convicted for sex crimes against a child (my father). She was let out of jail early because the judge said she should be free to care for me, her child

It's like people don't recognize that dangerous, criminal women shouldn't be caring for children in the first place. Fucking stupid judge
