Well it certainly looks like there are grounds for an enormous class action. The author has admitted that the system resulting from the letter “lacked basic elements of fairness.” There can be little doubt that with such an admission anyone accused has a good case for seeking damages.

I doubt it. Once your reputation is damaged theres no putting it back to together completely. The same could be said for careers and educational opportunities as in this context the three are intertwined. Still, those male students directly affected by this madness will have much firmer ground to stand on should they decide to pursue legal action. And I hope they do.
