the Court said the charges should in future be verified first instead of men being automatically arrested and put behind bars the moment his wife levelled an allegation.

Why wasn't it like that in the first place

Because women are dainty little things who'd never, ever lie.

I watched MacBeth and the moral of that story is always trust you wife

No, because in this case the husband and his family will, in many cases, stage a gas explosion and burn the wife... Has happened.

I get that things are skewed in favor of women in the west. But in most of the underdeveloped world, things are just fucked up - for everyone. You can see my post history to see what kind of views I have.

Sure, and that's terribly and wrong. But completely shifting the power of balance so that the other side is able to abuse it isn't the answer, no matter who it benefits.

In my country if the woman complains to Police without evidence the Judge gives an order of restriction and, in practice, she gets the house. No need to be married for that.

in your country no man should live with a women.

Wow...and I thought South American countries were mostly patriarchal

Is torturing men with false allegations women's empowerment?

If you do what they say, and "believe her" then yes, absolutely that is their position.

The thing is, most of the wife burnings in India over dowries are carried out by the husband's mother and sisters.

Considering it's India, I'm surprised this happened. the amount of legitimate sexism and violence towards women is astounding.

[–]usernamewillendabrup 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In trying to make things better for women, they've made things worse for innocent men.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And it's wrong. But I'm just pointing out the culture of the nations at hand.

[–]usernamewillendabrup 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Right

[–]JAYDEA 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It is a legitimately terrible place for women.

[–]meonaredcouch 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Is it?

[–]JAYDEA 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes.
