Male Victims of sexual assault & rape are not taken as seriously?

I was fortunate that after my mother died I got a lot of support from my dad, who had also been a victim of sexual abuse. If it weren't for him, I don't think I would have had anyone to turn to

The principal I reported to at school didn't believe me; a teacher I reported it to said that if I didn't like it, as a boy I should have been able to stop the women who were doing this; the police the saw the videos and photos my mother and her friends made and didn't even start an investigation to find the other women in the images; a couple of my "friends" in school who I told said that only a pussy wouldn't be happy about any kind of sex with an older woman

And of course by society in general are various rape myths like a male can't get an erection unless he wants it, or that males are always willing and will not be bothered by or will enjoy any sexual encounter

It's a serious problem because of the cycle: people (including police officers and mental health professionals) think it doesn't happen, so people ridicule it (or don't investigate reports) thinking it's rare or not serious, so men / boys don't come forward knowing about the stigma, so people think it doesn't happen

Raising awareness about it can't help to break this cycle. Once it becomes a more recognizable thing, victims may be more inclined to report it and others may be more inclined to offer support

What do you think? Interesting thoughts and something I have had personal experience sadly, I can relate to not being taken seriously for sure and there was little to no help available to me.

Male victims of simple assault or deadly weapon assault are not taken seriously, aka domestic violence against men.

So why would this be any different?
