There are literally ZERO straight white males in the entire production. And that's not even getting into the lack of African Americans, Puerto ricans, South-East-Islanders, gay South-East-Islanders etc. Kurosawa's supposed "masterpiece" is in fact a monument to racism, sexism and trans-disabalism.
I later learned that this movie was based on a Shakespeare play, written possibly by the man Shakespeare but also possibly by some aristocrat of the day using the name of the actor Shakespeare as a nom de plume, and it made me feel even worse. Kurosawa culturally appropriated this straight white man's work.
I became even more upset when I began to watch Kurosawa's other pictures. There was nary a straight white male to be found!
So much for "diversity."
Edit: I wrote this in response to the idiots who think "Dunkirk" should have more women and "people of color." It's called history. Deal with it.
