Am I the only one who barely found out Amy Schumer raped a dude ? And society decided to just move on and forget about it ? This is sickening

Why do some feminists say that the term "friend-zone" is offensive ? I mean I tend to disagree with most of the things feminists say, but "friend zone" being an offensive term is a concept I can't even grasp

Have you ever heard of a man boasting about beating his girlfriend? No, but have you heard of women boasting about beating up their boyfriend? Yes. Why is violence against men viewed as some kind of accomplishment for women? I know, its because they are the weaker sex and they need to point out any time they get one up on a male. For them its some kind of competition. For us, we're just trying live in balance with them. What do you get when one person is competing and the other person is just moving along? A very lopsided victory that is meaningless.

I have indeed heard of men boasting about similar things. But yeah, it's really petty to want to boast about something like that. I would, however, take the stories written there with a huge grain of salt, because most of them sound awfully like ThatHappened.

It's also worth noting that this whole "woman one-upping men" is a very common trope. What's the fastest way to establish that a female character is a badass? Either have her win in a contest of skill against men or have men talk about how badass she is. (First example that come to mind is Katniss). It's weird to me that this is considered a trope to signify a "strong woman", even though it relies so much on male validation.

I looked through the litany of posts in the article from women who claimed they hit their men. Can I point out that hitting someone and abusing them are not the same thing? Abuse is a system of behaviour.

From the remarks made by those women, many of them were not exactly doing it for the funsies. From the raging alcoholic that refused to leave, to the play wrestling lover that gave his lady the fucking Stone Cold Stunner, to the guy who started recording video while he and his belle are nekkid on the couch (without making sure it's cool with her first), and the guy who cheated on his wife, gave her an STD, and then told her he didn't love her any more, there's plenty of examples of what I'd call an under-reaction (though that may be coloured by the fucking insanity the world has sunken into in the last year and a half).

Is abusing your spouse or partner right? No. But how far are we willing to follow the trembling leaves of the feminist movement in rebranding "abuse" to be every rough interaction a couple has?

Reverse the genders and try to make the same point again.

Okay. A woman drunk and aggressively refusing to leave someone else's is liable to get her shit kicked in. It's a direct and pertinent threat, as you do not know what a drunk person is capable of deciding to do.

The wrestling couple. If it had been (uh... shit, I only know one female wrestler and she's dead :< ) fuck, I dunno, the Stunner-ette, whatever. That'd be worth a slap to the face.

Naked couple. She whips out a cell phone to get a snapshot of his dick, so he flings the phone across the room and tosses him off of her to the floor in disgust. I see that ending a little overdramatically for him, but ought to send a clear message about taping without permission!

Again, is it right to abuse your partner? No. But if two people are fighting and the person who is clearly wrong is getting a handprint on their cheek, I'm not shedding tears.

Is it right to beat up your partner for no reason? No. That's not a fight. That's just someone getting the shit kicked out of them.

But when you start a fight, you'd either be prepared to fight for a win, or willing to give in before you get hurt. That's why I never suggest dating someone who is a lot bigger or smaller than you. A relationship lasts on its ability to weather hardship - and that includes a couple fighting with each other. As long as they're not literally trying to hospitalize one another, the odd slap or shout or thunderous fist-pound on a table is no more a sign of inherent uncontrollable aggression than a child's tendency to rough-house.

You We humans are not as fragile as the two camps of the gender war seem to believe.

Abuse does not require repetition or regularity. It simply requires that you treat someone with violence or cruelty. Violence and cruelty are abuse.

It's extremely concerning that you feel the need to defend abusers.

Violence is never the answer. If your partner is doing something illegal, call the police. If your partner is doing something you don't like, end the relationship. Beating someone up because you're angry is not acceptable behaviour in a civilized society.

I beg to differ. It appears to be quite the standard among couples, despite attempts to politicize private relationships in order to curb the fighting. Human beings fight. That's just the type of creature we're dealing with. People fight with anything they can get a hold of. That's why so many people like democracy. It's not just freedom; it's freedom to argue and fight and disagree and be contentious with one another.

I'm not saying I'm the biggest fan of this fact, but the evidence does speak for itself. Expecting fighting couples to learn how to solve their differences peacefully is a bit like trying to make a cheetah changes its spots.

You are conflating what is with what should be.

Murders happen. That doesn't mean murder shouldn't be illegal or that people shouldn't advise other people to not kill each other. And the fact is, violent crimes are generally declining.

[–]Liv47 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What? What on Earth are you even talking about?

You are conflating what is with what should be.

Where?

Murders happen. That doesn't mean murder shouldn't be illegal

When did anyone say it shouldn't be illegal??

or that people shouldn't advise other people not to kill each other.

Where the hell are you getting any of this? Did you fall asleep and dream my post instead of reading it?

And the fact is, violent crimes are generally declining.

Whenever right-wingers say that, I always ask them the same question: "What do you think about when President Trump said that crime was the highest in 47 years?" Usually I then get to watch a squirmfest.

Technically, I did ask just now, but I'm not invested in the answer this time. Today's outing into MensRights has been a trial for the soul.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You are a strange person indeed.

I said that violence isn't the answer. You went on a rant about the inherent violence in human nature. That's the conflation of what is with what should be, also known as the naturalistic fallacy.

Also, I'm not a right-winger and I'm also not an American. I was talking about international trends. But nice assumptions there. At least you tried.

[–]Liv47 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah, so your position is the "should be". I think I understand now. I couldn't disagree more wholeheartedly without sounding crass, but at least we're on the same page.

Also, I'm not a right-winger and I'm also not an American. I was talking about international trends. But nice assumptions there. At least you tried.

90% of the guys that try to knock me down a peg have been American conservatives. Try not to take it personally.
