I think it's worth thinking about women in countries where they have real problems. Particularly because it puts the trivial (and often fictional) complaints of women in the West into perspective.

What this is about is a concept of the division between the clean and the unclean, the profane and the sacred, that barely exists in the West. Many cultures think our habit of wearing shoes that have just trampled through the outside world inside the house is disgusting. Moslems go through ritual ablutions before entering a mosque. The Sabbath was a day on which the profane cares of the world were set aside. The isolation of menstruating women is of the same order and those who do not understand the psychology of separating the profane from the sacred would be well advised not to go trumpeting their ignorance of cultures in which it is of great importance.
