This is hilarious for all the wrong reasons.

It’s a summer day in Sonoma Valley’s Bohemian Grove, where the country’s most powerful men gather to cavort, perform mysterious rituals and cement their social and political power.

Right. Because the average man's experience is very similar to that of the billionaires who meet at the Bohemian club. It's extremely alarming -- and bizarre -- that so many women (and apparently idiotic men) think a homeless man benefits from the fact that there are more male politicians. The average man doesn't benefit either way, since males have out-group bias toward females (the same is not true in reverse). Hence the thousands of chivalrous programs catering to women and girls.

It is not the men's rights movement that is being supported by the likes of JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs. It is the feminist movement.

This year, however, they have a different agenda: whether to bar women from comedy and from voting.

What biting wit. And totally representative of the men's rights movement. If you're going to write an entire play about a subject you should probably spend a few hours researching it.

Sansom said the answer was “the people with the most power, the people that are the least challenged.” In other words, said Sansom, the Men’s Rights Movement.

Once again this bizarre apex fallacy. Power does not "trickle down" from Donald Trump to a guy working on an oil rig or a veteran in a wheelchair. The average man has no power at all. Leftists used to understand this before the feminazis took over.

The Men’s Rights Movement is a group of activists who believe that they are discriminated against because they are men.

How could they ever come to that conclusion?

Many men’s rights activists believe that men are victimized by women in general and feminists in particular.

No. They may have been screwed over by a particular woman, but it's feminists we're concerned about. Specifically the endless anti-male laws they strangely have no problem passing in this "patriarchal" society.

“The illegitimacy of men’s rights complaints about their perceived victimhood makes them perfect Aristophanic targets,” said Edward Kelting, last year’s SCIT president.

Hear that? Father's being denied access to their children, baby boys being cut up, men suffering systemic oppression in the criminal "justice" system, boys being disadvantaged in schools, men being discriminated against in the workplace via affirmative action, etc etc. Those men aren't victims. The real victims are women who suffer mansplaining.

And here is where the real irony comes in. I haven't read the original play but I suspect it would be much more subversive simply to perform it as is. Women are the majority on college campuses and have tons of power and services devoted to them, whereas males are an abused minority being subjected to kangaroo courts and institutionalized misandry.

These dolts don't realize it, but they are "punching down" with their satire; that is, they are reinforcing current unjust power arrangements while foolishly thinking they are doing the opposite.

Men: stay away from Universities.

In the original The Thesmophoriazusae, Athenian women convene at the annual, women-only Thesmophoria festival. Fearing that the women will sentence him to death for his unflattering depiction of them, the playwright Euripides asks a male relative to dress as a woman and infiltrate the festival to advocate on his behalf.

The problem, according to Stephen Sansom, co-director of Men’s Rites, is how condescending the original play is toward women.

Aristophanes, great playwright, but sometimes Not Funny. He should thank his rewrite team for filtering out the problematic and inappropriate content.

SCIT’s answer is gender-swapping, changing the plot to involve a woman infiltrating a festival for men, which opened new possibilities.

“The jokes work better in this gender-swapped version than if we had used the original premise,” said Alyson Melzer, SCIT’s president. “The complaints that the women would have been presenting in this modern adaptation would have been legitimate, which is much less funny.”

Aristophanes, great playwright, but sometimes not funny. He should thank his rewrite team for tightening up his lame schtick.
