CNN takes crack at why women are starting to outearn men, and how degree choice explains much of the wage gap. It's like they're almost starting to get it.

Hey, White People: Michael Douglas Is the Villain, Not the Victim, in Falling Down

In other news, your dog wants steak.

According to her, if you're white and male you automatically agree with him because feminism.

Mister D-FENS was really the villain of the movie. He may not have been guilty of starting everything he was involved in, but he was no hero.

  • He assaulted a shopkeeper over a matter of 35 cents
  • He antagonized gang members instead of negotiating peacefully (what would have happened if he hadn't started swearing at them?)
  • He held a fast food restaurant up at gunpoint because the breakfast menu was no longer being served ("the customer is always right" is a myth)
  • He fired a bazooka at a construction site simply because the construction crew wasn't working hard, and the road work was not actually necessary (which is something cities do to ensure that their funding is completely spent by the end of the fiscal year - and that's actually important)
  • He pulled a gun on an indignant golfer (giving the man a heart attack) after trespassing on private property
  • He terrified an innocent family
  • He was stalking his wife and child, despite a demonstrably valid restraining order
  • He told an armed cop that he had a gun and was going to shoot him, forcing the cop to act pre-emptively -- compounded by the fact that since he was not carrying a real weapon, the shooting was entirely for nothing.

O I agree, but it's her sudden tangent blaming MRAs and white men for the actions of a fictional character...this movie is a "mens rights anthem"? Since when? She just randomly finds a way to slander MRAs.

Well, this is the sort of movie that appeals primarily to a male audience, and a long-standing romanticism with this tragic character has led to the perplexing belief that he was somehow the hero, battling the odds to see his little girl on her birthday.

  • The assaulted shopkeeper wasn't significantly hurt
  • The gangbangers pulled a knife on him, then trying to gun him down
  • The golfer tried to peg him with a golf ball
  • The army surplus store guy was a bigot who tried to tie him up in his shop
  • His wife seemed hesitant to describe him as dangerous because he hadn't physically harmed her or their daughter - but behaved in a manner that was frightening
  • Realizing his entire life was a lie, he decided to end it in a shootout with an old cop

It makes for a haze of perspective, and it's easy for the fans of the film to mistake the themes contained within.

Add a little feminist spice and blammo - instant political soup.
