Feminists want to impose their order on the culture and it won't work. I don't think that alimony will work in India. The groom's extended family would have to cover it. If he is on his own, making a hand to mouth wage, he won't be able to afford it.

India is one of the worst places to get married to a woman. The consequences for not getting married(shamed by family, hard to find housing on rent, single men can't adopt, etc) are more bearable than living with a fucked up marriage. Since most marriages are arranged, the groom has no way of know if she is a crazy bitch. Indian marriages are basically gambling on life.

From what i have been hearing, marriage has become a hard sell to young men in India. His family has to do a lot of arm twisting. With much more bad publicity, the arm twisting will not be so vigorous and the young men will be more determined.

Courts in India even provides access to ancestral properties of husband's family to women who divorced after 6 months. But, dowry or asking for money from women's' side is a serious crime.

At least in few families I know, women have started threatening and exploiting men, holding on to legalities of family law.

In a country of 1.2bn+ people, this is going to create serious ruckus.

Fair enough, assuming she has to provide cooking and cleaning services indefinitely for the husband. If the woman's benefits continue after marriage, then the man's should too.
