vaccinate Saskatchewan boys will prevent many types of cancers in the future

This is false. The risk of getting HPV before the age of 20 is very low. The vaccine will have worn off before the risk of infection becomes real.

https://cervical-cancer.canceraustralia.gov.au/statistics Cancerous HPV statistics are for females in Australia. The rates can't be that different for males in Canada.

infection for 15-19 years 0.1 per hundred thousand 20-24 years 1.6 per hundred thousand

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diane_Harper#Questioning_the_safety_and_efficacy_of_HPV_vaccines

Gardasil and Cervarix have only been shown to last for 5 and 9.4 years respectively

Even if one does become infected there is an 90% chance the infection will be gone within 2 years with no treatment required. Those with persistent infections half of them turn into a slow acting treatable form of cancer.

http://www.npr.org/2011/09/19/140543977/hpv-vaccine-the-science-behind-the-controversy

Ninety-five percent of women who are infected with HPV never, ever get cervical cancer. It seemed very odd to be mandating something for which 95 percent of infections never amount to anything.

pap screenings that combine HPV testing and cytology have a nearly 100% ability to detect pre-cancers and cancers

I'm sure that throat swabs can be developed for men and the 95% cure rate for doing nothing can be increase dramatically.

For a province that apparently is having to implement what in some peoples opinion is an "austerity budget" this is money that could have been much better spent.

Saskatchewan budget includes $750,000 to begin a human papillomavirus vaccine program to protect Saskatchewan boys and men from cancer.

Once again I'm amazed by the marketing power of the vaccine industry.

Oh fucking great an antivaxxer.

LOL, what wonderfully insightful analysis. I didn't even say vaccines are bad. Just that this vaccine is extremely hard to justify according to vaccine manufacturer information, CDC information, and real world statistics.

You literally used statistics about AUSTRIALIAN WOMEN to justify not vaccinating CANADIAN MEN. You have no idea about the prevalence of HPV in Canadian men.

Down voting me instead of actually coming up with counter points. That says a lot. :)

I didn't downvote LOL you are at one point bro. No one downvoted you. What you are seeing is your own vote getting hidden by reddit's algorithm to prevent karma abuse. Don't worry it happens to the best of us.

I have not up voted or down voted anyone in this thread. Someone did down vote without adding to the conversation because my response to your comment on the validity of the statistics is at zero. I assumed it was your voting because this thread is old enough that very few people will see it now.

Used statistics that I'm aware of. HPV statistics on women are hard to find and I've been unable to find any for men for any country. This is likely because it is considered to be a minor infection and doctors just don't report it if they find it. I wonder what statistics the Saskatchewan government used to justify the program for both genders. So here is some Canadian information.

https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/human-papillomavirus-hpv.html

There is no equivalent of Pap testing in males. Penile cancer is rare and occurs in less than 1% of all male cancers.

The Saskatchewan money could have been spent on throat swabs and would probably cost a lot less than vaccination. The prevalence of HPV cancer in men is so small that even if the vaccine works with 100% effectiveness and no side effects it would help very few people. If this article were more complete it would mention the limited duration of vaccine effectiveness.

There are other types of STD's in Canada which can be considered to be more serious. The link on this page to "Statistics on STIs in Canada" returns a 404 not found error. http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hc-ps/dc-ma/sti-its-eng.php
